The first thing you should do is determine the location where the slate or mirror wall fountain will be placed. Measure the available space by taking into account the height and length of the ceiling and wall, respectively. Vertical fountains fit well in a room with high ceilings while horizontal wall fountains will usually go well with long walls and possibly have below average ceiling height.

If you want to have a more vivid layout of the indoor fountain, after putting thumbtacks on the four corners, you may tie a string forming an outline. However, if thumbtacks are not available, you may use strips of tape to form an outline. Using either of this two, you can now better picture out the size of the fountain if hanged on the wall.
In cases that the wall is not yet constructed, it is recommended to make a template of the actual size of your chosen fountain using cardboard. The cardboard, preferably with a different color, are cut based on the dimensions of your fountain. Then hang it on the wall with removable tape. Instructions or reminders for yourself or for the person who will install the fountain can be written in the pieces of attached cardboards. This will avoid errors in the installation process especially when the fountain is big enough.
Using the methods above, you will now have an idea if your preferred wall fountain fits well in the available location on your wall. Likewise, you can plan ahead on what other home décor items you can add to fill the vacant spaces beside your wall mounted water fountain.
